Most temperature measuring elements are based on the thermal expansion of a liquid solid or gas in a thermoelectric measurement in which a thermally induced electro motive force (EMF) is used to translate into temperature or in the measurement of a resistance change caused by a temperature change in either a precision resistor or a thermistor.
